Job Description
This is a groundbreaking opportunity where you could become a founding member of our Portugal office, while making a global impact. By leveraging your expertise, you’ll contribute to supporting over $675 billion in assets and drive Arcesium’s continued growth.
Company Overview
Arcesium is a global financial technology firm that solves complex data-driven challenges faced by some of the world’s most sophisticated financial institutions. We constantly innovate our platform and capabilities to meet tomorrow’s challenges, anticipate the risks our clients encounter, and design advanced solutions to help our clients achieve transformational business outcomes.
Financial technology is a high-growth industry as change and innovation continue to disrupt the status-quo and prompt major transformation. Arcesium is at a particularly interesting time in our own growth as we look to leverage our successfully established market position and expand operations in pursuit of strategic new business opportunities. We value intellectual curiosity, proactive ownership, and collaboration with colleagues, and we empower you to meaningfully contribute from day one and accelerate your professional development.
Position Summary
Arcesium seeks an accomplished Lead Infrastructure Engineer to join our Infrastructure team. All Infrastructure Engineers are coders and technology generalists who bring their unique combination of breadth and depth of experience and knowledge to the team. As a Lead Infrastructure Engineer, you’re passionate about providing the foundation and capabilities to our application developers to build upon, and love to solve problems with creative multi-discipline, polyglot, and/or open-source solutions. You are able to work independently, demonstrating “high agency” in your work, but you’ll balance your independence with leveraging the team and working with outside stakeholders as needed.
What you will do:
- Engineer our Linux compute platform based on Kubernetes and AWS
- Engineer our Python and Terraform-based tools and automation
- Build infrastructure applications, write, and review code as needed
- Solve problems with a combination of coding and implementation of open source tools
- Troubleshoot and debug complex systems
- Leverage our design, coding, automation, and implementation skills to engineer what Arcesium needs, solving business and technology problems
- Demonstrate strong technical breadth/depth, driving innovation, evaluating new technologies, and deciphering the technical vision for engineering teams.
- Own key contributions to technical design and architecture decisions, considering trade-offs of choices, managing risk, making decisions independently where appropriate, and presenting reasoned options for decision-making by others.
- Lead the way by writing exemplary code, documentation, and RFCs.
- Identify, propose, develop, deploy, and own R&D projects in accordance with the technical vision and needs of the team, turning problem statements into solutions, and operating independently as needed.
- Design systems and solutions that take into account and/or improve key metrics (e.g. quality, cost, availability, scalability, reliability).
- Mentor and coach engineers in their subdepartment and influence the broader Technology organization.
What you’ll need:
- We prefer 5+ years of relevant infrastructure experience. However, we are interested more in what you’ve done, can do, and can grow to do, rather than the number of years you’ve been working.
- Proven track record of ownership of critical systems and delivery of systems and features. You have owned and operated critical infrastructure systems like Linux, Kubernetes, DNS, Kerberos, and/or AWS IAM.
- Polyglot programming capability, with advanced level Python ability. Other languages in our ecosystem include Java, Go, and Bash.
- Experience with running critical workloads on AWS
- Ability to balance delivery with correctness, delivering timely solutions that are properly risk-managed for the needs of the business
- You have an inquisitive mind, the ability to learn and problem-solve, and are a self-starter
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related discipline is required
- Have a valid work permit to work in the country (we prefer candidates who are willing to work in a hybrid model in Lisbon, but we are also open to considering candidates who live in Europe and wish to work remotely)
