Full-timeDrone Security Engineer

Auterion Zürich, Zürich, Switzerland

Job Description

Auterion is looking for a Drone Security Engineer!

What you tell your family you do:
“I’m helping with building the world’s largest drone ecosystem by protecting drones, our networks and computer systems from any security threats or attacks. No, I will not deliver you a pizza with a drone (just yet)!“

What you really do:
Help us protect and harden not only the Auterion distributed systems, but all of our customers using our product as well! Since 2018, Auterion has taken strategic initiative to bring open source software for drones to enterprises. We have been enabling our customers to bring their ideas for their drone use-cases to life in ways that weren't possible before. With the Auterion software you can shape and personalize your drone fleet, while closely monitoring the health of your drones from across the globe.
As a Security Engineer, you will be responsible for the security of the overall Auterion operating system. You will help to further strengthen the security of our foundational platforms such as kernels, virtualization, firmware, and hardware. You will be responsible for conducting security reviews, threat modeling, developing tooling that will help detect security issues at scale and hands-on security evaluations (pen-testing).
By applying your hard-earned years of practical security engineering expertise in hardware-rooted security and operating system hardening, you will literally shape the future of the open source drone industry.

In detail you will:
- Be responsible for hardware-rooted security aspects and operating system hardening.
- You will dive into complex engineering discussions and leverage deep security expertise to ensure proper risk assessment and that threat analysis is performed.
- You will provide crystal-clear technical direction and risk mitigation guidance for diverse engineering and business leaders at all levels.
- Develop elegant solutions to complex business problems and apply appropriate technologies whilst following security engineering best practices.
- Provide mentorship to colleagues regarding security aspects and be a security thought leader for the organization.

We would love to hear from you if:
- Academic track-record: Ideally you have a MSc in Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline, and have at least 5+ years of hands-on experience in the field, supporting engineering projects from concept to delivery.
- Professional experience: Of these 5+ years, you have 3+ years of experience performing security reviews and implementing defensive technical security controls. Furthermore, you have worked in two or more of the following technical categories:
- Security assessment (e.g. penetration testing, incident response, forensics, network traffic analysis)
- Virtualization security (Xen, KVM, QEMU)
- Hardware security (PCB, JTAG, UART, SPI, ROM, microcode, custom ASIC/FPGA)
- IoT network technologies (Z-Wave, Zigbee, Bluetooth/BLE, WLAN, identity/auth security)
- ARM chipset and firmware security (TPM, UEFI, TrustZone, Secure Boot, JTAG, PCIe)
- PKI and code signing architecture (X.509, EV SSL, certificate pinning, OCSP, CRL, HSM)
- Network security (L2/L3, VLANs, ACLs, routing, enclaves, DMZ, TACACS, SNMP, IPMI, SSH, IPSec)
- You have solid troubleshooting, technical, and communication skills, as well as the ability to handle a mix of disparate tasks which may include project and software development work.

What you will find at Auterion:
- A Silicon Valley style startup (we know, we were part of one) in the heart of Switzerland, but with a truly global reach.
- We have all the perks you would expect from a great startup: an amazing industry (Robotics and Drones… need we say more), incredible office space, a smart multidisciplinary team, a flexible workplace, plenty of food in the kitchen, and a pure mission that binds us all together.
- Be based in the heart of Switzerland in Zurich’s bustling city life as well as near the natural beauty of the country and – of course – the Swiss Alps.
- Competitive salary and generous stock option plan.
