Full-time Mobile Backend Engineer

Job Description

At MeteoGroup’s consumer team we aim to build the most unique weather apps and websites in the world. We are always keen to hear from capable, creative engineers who want to help us accomplish that goal.

As a Mobile Backend Engineer you will be an integral part of a small, powerful and fast acting team focused on building world a class consumer weather experience. You will work closely with frontend application developers to provide scalable, resilient backend services for our consumer facing applications, such as user profile management, user authentication, and application usage and crash analytics. 

You will analyze the demands of the group and their products, specify and maintain a technology stack and give fresh impetus to the development of those products. You spread the idea and the behaviour of professional software engineering to other departments by active mentoring, hands on sessions and knowledge sharing.

Other key responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with product leadership to translate their product vision into scalable, resilient services;
  • Develop high-quality, ship-ready code;
  • Work as part of a cross-functional development team to drive design, implementation, testing and release of products.

Our requirements: 

  • At least 5 years of back-end engineering experience in a technology-led company, where you are used to work agile in cross-functional teams;
  • Excellent programming skills in a modern programming language such as Go or Rust;
  • Acquainted with agile and software craftsmanship concepts such as Scrum and Kanban;
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in developing highly reliable, scalable real-time services, including knowledge of designing RESTful web services;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Reactive Systems, Microservices and Scalable Cloud Native Applications – usage, design and implementation;
  • Experience troubleshooting production systems at scale;
  • Experience with Google Firebase strongly preferred;
  • Adventurous interests in new technologies, languages and approaches;
  • Excellent communicator and presenter in fluent English.

This position is based in our global headquarters in Utrecht, Netherlands.
